In our ongoing commitment to supporting the career development of i3S researchers, we hosted, together with the i3S Career Development Unit, an inspiring session with our alumna Liliana Moreira Teixeira, Associate Professor at the University of Twente, where she leads the Targeted Microphysiological Systems group, focusing on organ-on-a-chip models to study diseases like osteoarthritis and cancer.
Liliana is the co-founder and scientific leader of the Organ-on-Chip Centre Twente, serves on the board of EUROoCS and has held roles across leading institutions in Europe and the USA. Her work has been recognised with several awards, including the NWO Women in STEM and the NWO Aspasia.
Once a Scientist… Uncovering Career Journeys is an i3S seminar series that explores the wide range of professional paths available to researchers. While it often focuses on careers beyond academia, it also wants to highlight academic research career – the most familiar one, even if there’s no clear roadmap to follow.
In this session, Liliana shared her journey from completing her PhD and postdoc to establishing her research group, covering everything from securing grants to balancing the demands of science, teaching, and leadership.
We thank Liliana for her visit and look forward to connecting with her again in the future!
