Project Coordinator

Cristina Martins is the Project Coordinator and a WP leader of MOBILIsE. She is the Principal Investigator of the BioEngineered Surfaces group at INEB/i3S and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of INEB. She is an expert in the development of biomaterial coatings designed at the nanoscale using self-assembled monolayers and biomedical polymers. Her group is investigating the effect of surface immobilised ligands in the guiding of specific protein/cell binding to control bacterial adhesion and/or thrombus formation. She is an Invited Associate Professor at the University of Porto.

Ana Paula Pêgo is a WP leader of MOBILIsE and the Principal Investigator of the NanoBiomaterials for Targeted Therapies group at INEB/i3S. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of i3S. Her research focuses on the establishment of nanomedicine strategies to promote nervous tissue regeneration, including the development of novel polymers for efficient nucleic acid delivery, or design of brain tissue engineered platforms. She is an Invited Associate Professor at the University of Porto.

Bruno Sarmento is a WP leader of MOBILIsE and the Principal Investigator of the Nanomedicines and Translational Drug Delivery group at INEB/i3S. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of i3S. His research focusses on the development of functionalised nanomedicines and their application in the pharmaceutical and biomedical fields, in particular, nanoformulations of biopharmaceutical drugs with interest in diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases. He is an Invited Associate Professor at the Instituto Universitário de Ciências da Saúde.

Cristina Barrias is a WP leader of MOBILIsE, Principal Investigator at INEB/i3S and head of the Bioengineered 3D Microenvironments group. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of INEB. Her research focusses on (micro)tissue engineering for regenerative therapies and in vitro disease modelling. In particular, she has been working on the design of customised hydrogel 3D matrices and biofabrication tools to direct cellular self-organisation into different types of micro-sized building blocks for bottom-up tissue engineering. She is an Invited Associate Professor at ICBAS (University of Porto) and at the Polytechnic of Porto - School of Engineering.

Fernando Jorge Monteiro is a WP leader of MOBILIsE and the Principal Investigator of the Biocomposites research group at INEB/i3S. His research interests are on ceramic based composite scaffolds for bone tissue engineering and on surface modifications of materials to improve bioactivity while reducing bacterial adhesion. He is a Full Professor at the University of Porto and the Director of the Doctoral Programme in Biomedical Engineering and of the BSc and MSc courses in Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering.
