Molecular Biomaterials Group Welcomes Biomedical Engineering Students from the Porto School of Engineering (ISEP)
On the 15th of June, the Molecular Biomaterials group welcomed 40 students from the Porto School of Engineering (ISEP) as part of the Biomaterials and Tissue Regeneration module of the 2nd-year Biomedical Engineering Course.
The visit aimed to provide students with an overview of the group’s main research areas and ongoing projects, while introducing them to potential career paths and opportunities for future research involvement.
In a highly interactive session, researchers Rui Pereira and Mariana Magalhães showcased innovative therapeutic strategies based on peptides and self-assembling biomaterials, highlighting how interdisciplinary research is advancing the development of more effective treatments for devastating diseases such as glioblastoma and medulloblastoma.
Following the presentation, students had the opportunity to tour the laboratory facilities and learn more about the group’s research environment.
Promoted by the course director, Prof Cristina Ribeiro, a member of the MOBILIsE team, the visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to bridge classroom learning with cutting-edge research. By engaging directly with researchers and exploring ongoing projects, students gained valuable insight into the role of biomaterials and tissue engineering in addressing some of today’s most pressing healthcare challenges.
